What is email hosting?

Email hosting is a service in which a hosting provider rents out email servers to its users. Where are my emails stored and hosted?

If you set up an email account under the Post Office Protocol, emails are downloaded onto one device and then kept there locally, just like a letter. However, we strongly recommend using the IMAP email protocol. This means emails are stored in the cloud, where they can be accessed from any device at any time. You can open emails in Outlook, reply to them via webmail and check they were sent using an app. techhost will store your messages (and any sub‐folders you create to organise them) on our secure servers, which are constantly being backed up to keep your data safe.

How should I choose the prefix part of my email addresses?

If you register the website domain name www.companyname.com, all your emails will end ‘@companyname.com’. However, you can choose various prefixes to come before the @ symbol. You might want to use your first name or your full name, or set up dedicated accounts@ and enquiries@ addresses for dealing with customer queries. We recommend info@ for generic email accounts which will be serving multiple roles, or accounts where more than one person will be checking them.
